The complete solution to start-stop access

ECOBAT Battery Technologies (EBT), formerly Manbat, is a long-term exponent of the need for independent workshops to be fully up to speed when it comes to both the batteries and the associated technology, that is present in every micro-hybrid, or start/stop, enabled vehicle.

As part of this ongoing commitment, it will be using the platform provided by Automechanika Birmingham to raise awareness of the next phase in its customer support strategy, which is the launch of an all-in-one, start/stop battery analysis and replacement solution, entitled ONE BOX.

“We have been consistently addressing the need for workshops to consider the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities provided by start/stop battery technology over the last four years,” explained John Bentley, EBT’s technical sales and training manager, “but there is still a surprisingly large number of workshops that have yet to grasp the issue and are therefore losing out on the potential it offers.”

Taking up the theme, Marketing Manager, Laura Jones, added: “In order to gain a greater understanding of the number of workshops that recognise the different requirements necessary for  replacing a battery in a car equipped with a start/stop function, compared to that of a traditional system, we undertook some national research. After its conclusion, we now have an accurate indication of the extent of the problem, as it has revealed that, typically, only 57% of independent workshops knowingly fit start/stop batteries!

“To discover that such a low percentage of workshops fit AGM and EFB batteries, points to either an ongoing lack of awareness that the replacement requirements differ and they undertake the work unaware that there is any obvious difference in the process, or the assumption that fitting them is complicated and costly and is therefore something they want to steer clear of, which means they are losing the business to their competitors in the process.”

“To help those workshops currently not benefiting from the start/stop revolution – and it really is a revolution, because since 2016, the vast majority of passenger cars equipped with an internal combustion engine have a start/stop system as standard and are therefore fitted with either an AGM or EFB battery – we have developed the ONE BOX package,” Bentley continued.

“With the appropriate equipment and a little training, fitting these batteries correctly is not a complicated process. So, by providing a combination of products, which together allow workshops currently turning work away that would typically be charged at more than £185 per installation, we can help to open the way for them to access new business and increased profits, with a straightforward, practical and inexpensive solution.”

“As well as the equipment included in the ONE BOX bundle, which includes a battery analyser to accurately assess the condition of the existing battery, a NOCO charger and OBD lead to support the vehicle’s ECU/data storage during the replacement process and a battery validation tool to ensure the new AGM/EFB battery is correctly assimilated into the vehicle’s battery management system, the package can be supported with signage and point-of-sale material, to allow workshops to fully promote their start/stop replacement capability.

“On top of all this, we will also provide product training to enable technicians to get the very best from the equipment and provide their customers with the most professional service, which ensures the batteries are fitted correctly, thus improving customer satisfaction and reducing warranty claims.

“Automechanika Birmingham provides us with the ideal stage from which to launch the ONE BOX initiative and we shall be demonstrating both the obvious need for it in the marketplace and how it fulfils that requirement, on our stand – H154 – and from the event’s official Workshop Training Hub in hall 18, during the course of the show.”

“Naturally, we will be drawing the attention of visitors to our stand to both ONE BOX and the premium quality battery brands the company represents in the UK and Ireland, as well as across continental Europe,” explains Laura.

“However, we will be further supporting them by not only revealing a very special, show-only, introductory offer for ONE BOX orders taken during the event, but with the opportunity to win a unique and one-off ‘starter pack’ to enable a lucky workshop to launch their start/stop specialty, investment free!

“In addition to the equipment contained in the ONE BOX set, the pack also includes free, on-site training and four complimentary batteries – two AGM and two EFB – that together will set them off to a flying start.”
